Over 100 members were selected to attend the Summer Academy from Sept. 16 to Sept. 20, 2018. These member leaders spent four days and three nights at Nottawasaga Inn Resort & Conference Centre in Alliston, Ont. for the educational program. Members attended one of four different streams: facing management, mental health, organizing your workplace, and political action. In the evenings, members interacted with each other at different social events, such as a movie night, a campfire gathering, and a karaoke night.

Dernell George is an RPN at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and she helped facilitate the organizing your workplace stream at the Summer Academy. Dernell is on the Nursing Division Executive Board and she is one of the members of the SEIU Healthcare WAVE Training Program.
Jeff Doyle is a PSW at CarePartners living in Roslin, Ont., which is close to Belleville. Jeff participated in the facing management stream at the 2018 Summer Academy.
Bernadette Solis works in housekeeping at a long-term healthcare facility, Extendicare Medex, in Ottawa. Bernadette participated in the political activism stream at the 2018 SEIU Healthcare Summer Academy.
Gloria Turney is a steward with SEIU Healthcare at CarePartners. She attended SEIU Healthcare’s 2018 Summer Academy and participated in the mental health stream.
